At the beginning of January 2010, the UK experienced what has been described as the longest cold spell in decades, with one Gloucestershire weather forecaster suggesting that the night of January 6 to January 7 being the “coldest night since 1991″, with temperatures reported to be as low at -16°c in some areas.
