I am a 17-year-old student from Cirencester in Gloucestershire, where I am in my first year at college, where I am doing courses in Geography, German, Music Technology, IT and Journalism. I have previously attended Stratton Primary School and Cirencester Deer Park School.
My main interest is in radio, and since February 2006 I have been heavily involved with Corinium Radio, which broadcasts to Cirencester once every 6 months on an RSL (Restricted Service Licence). I currently hold the post of Website Administrator, which involves keeping both team members and the public up to date on issues such as meeting dates, schedules and events. I joined the Technical Support team in early 2008, working with Tom Robinson in areas such as studio setup, recording and editing of programmes and monitoring the Internet broadcasting system.
I have hosted my own radio shows on the station since the very start – for the last 18 months I have hosted Music from the Decades on a Saturday night, and in November 2009 I hosted an edition of the Breakfast Show – playing music, and looking back over (nearly) 4 years of breakfast-time radio in the Cirencester community.
I have helped build a number of other websites, including Greek Connexion and Geoff Carr. You can find out more on my Web Design page.
I enjoy listening to music, and I like quite a wide range of music – the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Slade, Chris de Burgh, Elbow, Paul McCartney, Robbie Williams and U2 as well as many Greek artists (not just the “Zorba the Greek” type ones which most people think of when they think of Greek music)! The list could go on, and on, and on! In face, I’m not sure that I could say that I have a single, favourite singer or group… I tend to listen to the radio more than CDs and its very rare that you’d hear a whole hour where only one artist’s records are played!
I speak Greek, and attend a class in Cirencester every Friday afternoon. I visit Greece regularly with my family – we prefer the smaller remote areas, because they are quieter and there aren’t many English people there! We have visited many areas of the country – including the islands Thassos, Kalymnos and Samos – and the small mainland village of Sivota, about an hours drive from the city of Ioannina. This year, because the smaller islands are too expensive, we will be going to Crete. We have found a small village on the quieter side of the island, so it shouldn’t be too bad!
If you’d like to know what I get up to in Greece, then you can find some blog posts about my most recent trip, at fred-hart.co.uk/kalymnos. Its specifically about Kalymnos, but you’ll learn a lot about the country in general as well.
I, personally, maintain this website – I do not pay anyone to run it for me! I use my blog to write about things which interest me – such as developments at the radio station, radio industry news, general news items of interest as well as other things that I may be doing.
